Luton Town have moved up to the Premier League English Championship by beating Conventry on penalties this Saturday (27) (6-5, after a 1-1 draw), in the access playoff final, played at Wembley Stadium in front of 85,000 spectators.

The arrival in the Premier League is the happy ending of the fairy tale of this modest club from the London region, which ten years ago was in the English fifth division.

Luton dropped out of the elite 31 years ago and will now have to renovate its old stadium, with a capacity of 10,000 spectators, in order to receive the country’s big clubs.

“It’s been a beautiful journey. We’ll be celebrating all summer,” said midfielder Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu, who took part in Luton’s four outings.

The game had a tense moment when Luton captain Tom Lockyer collapsed on the pitch early in the first half.

The player was removed from the lawn and taken to a hospital, where according to the club he was conscious and communicated with his family.

Luton are the last club to secure access to the Premier League, joining the top two in the second division, who automatically rose: Burnley and Sheffield United.
