The Luxembourg Government “strongly” advises all citizens not to travel to the Middle East, particularly between Israel, Lebanon and Iran, taking into account the “strong tensions” and the “risk of military escalation”.

As for Luxembourg citizens currently in that region, the Government calls on them to exercise “maximum vigilance” and remain “regularly informed” about the situation.

“It is essential to stay away from all gatherings and limit travel within the country, particularly to Iran, where European citizens have been regularly detained in the past and sentenced to heavy prison sentences”, reads the statement issued this Saturday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Government also reiterates its travel advice from October 8 last year, in which it advises against all travel to Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

“We recommend that all Luxembourg citizens who have not yet registered their presence on the LamA platform – Lëtzebuerger am Ausland – do so and also communicate their presence in Iran to the Consular Assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: [email protected]”, reports the department led by Xavier Bettel.

Iran launched drone attack against Israel

This Saturday, Iran launched a drone attack against Israel “from its territory”, confirmed the Israeli army spokesman in a televised speech.

Israeli aviation authorities announced the closure of the country’s airspace to all flights as they prepare for the attack.

Tensions between Israel and Iran have risen in recent weeks following the bombing of the Iranian consulate in Damascus on April 1, in which seven members of the Revolutionary Guard and six Syrian citizens died.

MNE of Portugal asks Portuguese people to return

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal this Saturday appealed to the Portuguese to avoid traveling to Israel and asked those in that country, “if they can”, to return, if not, to comply with all security rules.

Speaking to the press at the end of the afternoon, Paulo Rangel considered that the capture of the MSC Aries ship, with a Portuguese flag (registered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira), is a “worrying” incident, because it occurred “in a context of high tension in the Middle East ”, which involves “in particular, Israel and Iran”.

Therefore, the head of diplomacy asked all Portuguese people to “avoid traveling to the region, or to those who are there, and particularly in the State of Israel” so that they return, or, “if they cannot return”, to “comply with follow all instructions from local authorities”.

“This applies to any state in the area, but in particular to Israel”, highlighted the MNE.
