At the beginning of 2025, the children of Roodt-sur-Syre, in the commune of Betzdorf, in Luxembourg“>Grevenmacher, will have at their disposal a unique facility in the national territory: an ecological nursery, which is being built with local and sustainable materials, according to with Luxemburger Wort.
Designed to accommodate 100 children, the structure of the building has already been completed and work on the interior has recently begun, according to Burgomaster Marc Ries (CSV). The wood used in the construction comes from local and regional forests, and old but still intact wooden beams are also used from remodeled or demolished spaces, such as the old primary school in Betzdorf or the old Café de l’Amerique in Olingen.

Along with wood, clay is the material that stands out most in the building and comes from a construction site close to the site. According to Marc Ries, the spaces are filled with clay bricks and covered with clay plaster. “This guarantees a pleasant interior temperature. The materials are not glued, but rather nailed or screwed”, he explained to Wort.
The project has a budget of around 16 million euros and has funding of one million euros from the Ministries of Environment and Education.
