“In any case, we are no longer participating in the election campaign. We had made the whole plan, planned the financing and we can certainly afford to contribute to the candidate we are now supporting in the election campaign. It is logical”, R. Karbauskis said to Elta.

“But we ask the candidate if he would like such support. And if he expressed such a desire, we would consider the possibility of support,” he added.

According to R. Karbauskis, decisions on support for I. Vēgēle should be made by the LVŽS council. Also, according to him, it will still have to be discussed how much this financial support could be.

“There is no attachment to whether the amount is from the party account or the balance from another candidate. We should simply consider the need and the possibilities. Because we as a party will have another election,” said the chairman of the LVŽS.

“It is out of the question about hundreds of thousands of euros. Here, we might be talking about tens of thousands of euros,” he added.

The CEC informs that the party can financially support a candidate not nominated by it in the elections.

After the withdrawal of LVŽS candidate Aurelijus Veryga from the presidential election campaign, the funds remaining in the political campaign participant’s account opened specially for the election campaign will have to be returned to the political party’s account.

ELTA reminds that the LVŽS Council, which met last Friday, decided to withdraw from the presidential election and no longer raise the candidacy of the MP, former Minister of Health A. Veryga. According to the Council’s decision, the peasants will support lawyer Igna Vēgelė in the elections for the head of the country.

After withdrawing his candidacy, A. Veryga became the leader of the LVŽS list for the European Parliament (EP).

Discussions about the possible support of LVŽS to I. Vēgėle were heard in the public space after the presidential candidates shared photos and comments from the meeting between the two this week.

The Lithuanian presidential election will be held on May 12, 2024.
