Clear and impeccable victory for the Lyonnaises in Rome (0-3), who take the lead in their group.
Lyon are top of group A of the women’s football Champions League after beating AS Roma (3-0) on Wednesday at the Tre Fontane Stadium in Rome on matchday three, thanks in particular to a brace from their Haitian national team striker, Melchie Dumornay.
Dumornay, after seeing the goalkeeper advance, scored a lob from almost 50 meters which allowed OL to take a 2-0 lead (41st). He opened the scoring by taking a poorly cleared ball from close range after a cross served by Dzsenifer Marozsan (36th). These two goals, the first two from the 21-year-old Haitian in this season’s competition, confirmed the great dominance of the Lyonnais in the first period.
Dumornay could have added a third goal but his deflected shot ends up just wide (51st). She was replaced in the 82nd minute by Eugénie Le Sommer, who came on at the same time as Sarah Däbritz and Vicky Becho. The substitutions made in the second half, however, altered the cohesion of the Lyon team after the break, when Canadian Vanessa Gilles made it 3-0 from a corner (52nd).
Lyon, with three victories in as many matches and still no goals conceded in the event, occupies first place in the group with three points ahead of the Romans who have two victories for one defeat. The two teams will face each other again on November 20th at the Groupama stadium in Décines-Charpieu during the next C1 matchday with the possibility for OL to secure qualification and make a very strong bid to lead the group.
