At the day of the “NEMO” project entitled: “New and Flexible Forms of Electrification in the South Aegean”, the Member of Parliament for the Dodecanese and President of the Parliament’s Regions Committee, Mr. Manos Konsolas, attended and addressed a greeting.

The conference was co-organized by the company Grants-Project, a new company in the field of managing European Programs in the South Aegean region, together with the Institute of Sustainable Mobility and Transport Networks (I.MET).

The project aims to develop a supply network of electric skates in Rhodes, as well as to develop a communication platform with the user. It concerns the introduction, optimization and promotion of electric scooters as a new, flexible, safe and economical means of micromobility, able to serve the local population and visitors, while it consists of two versions, basic and enriched, covering the immediate needs of the islands .

Mr. Konsolas in his presentation praised the work of IMET/EKETA in Rhodes and referred to the government’s priorities for sustainable urban mobility, as already voted with the relevant bill of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.

Specifically, he referred to the integrated institutional framework for the formulation and preparation of sustainable urban mobility plans that aim to ensure the safe movement of citizens and compliance with environmental conditions, as well as the obligation of municipalities over 30 thousand

residents and regions of the country to draw up a plan for sustainable urban mobility, which will also include projects and actions with objectives:

· Strengthening and improving road safety.

· The formulation of the conditions for the provision of infrastructure and facilities for electrification.

· Improving the accessibility of people with disabilities.

· The strengthening of public transport systems.

He also referred to the successful implementation of the electrification pilot program in Astypalaia and the need to expand it to the other islands as well.

He pointed out that we should have as objectives: the creation of a framework for the development of infrastructure on these islands and the formation of financial tools and incentives to strengthen electrification, with substantial incentives in the island regions.

The event included speeches by Mr. Evangelos Bekiaris, Director of IMET/EKETA, Ms. Mary Papandreou, Director of IMET N. Aegean Branch, Mr. Athanasios Tamvakos, Scientific Associate of IMET and Mr. Giorgos Smyrnakis, Secretary General of WEGEMT and representative of the participating in the NEMO Company project.
