Mac Users Can Be Spied On Through Microsoft Apps! – LSA Magazine

by time news

Microsoft hasn’t been having a good time lately. After recently being criticized (albeit unfairly) for causing the downtime of its systems and the short-term collapse of the IT world, it now has another dilemma to solve. Security experts at Cisco Talos have pointed out that through Microsoft applications for macOS, including Microsoft Outlook or Teams, Apple users can be intercepted and monitored by hackers.

Since Microsoft is currently working on a solution, security experts could not be entirely specific, so as not to help hackers increase their activity, despite the fact that Cisco itself considers the bug relatively low-risk, since its reproduction is quite complex. However, we know that a vulnerability in the apps could, in extreme cases, allow a hacker to access the microphone and camera of a Mac without the user’s consent. As a result, attackers were able to listen to the audio recording from the microphone, i.e. watch the image from the camera, which allowed them to access sensitive information. Although Microsoft has already started to solve the entire problem, as it has already managed to release updates for Teams and OneNote, however, for example, Excel, PowerPoint, Word or Outlook are still waiting for a solution. So we can only hope that Microsoft can work everything out as soon as possible and that using Macs with these applications will become 100% safe again.
