“Maccabi Haifa is a candidate to receive Lior Rafalov in January”

by time news

Lior Rafalov is one of the biggest players in Belgian football in the last decade, but he may soon leave the country where he starred for so many years. As a reminder, the 36-year-old Israeli’s contract ends at the end of the current season and as of now he has not yet reached an agreement with Anderlecht on a new contract.

According to a report in Belgium, Rafalov is currently examining his options, which range between signing a new contract, and returning to one of his exes, Club Brugge and Maccab Haifa, as well as MLS teams that have expressed interest in him.

In addition, it is reported that Rafalov’s decision will probably come before the opening of the winter window, where he will already be able to sign freely with a new team if he does not extend his contract by then. Also, if he does not reach an agreement with his current club, leaving in January is also on the agenda.

Rafalov started his career at Maccabi Haifa and won three championships with them before leaving in the summer of 2011 for Club Brugge for 2.5 million euros. After seven great years during which he won two championships and the Belgian Cup, he moved to Antwerp, where he won the cup and the title of player of the year in Belgium. In April 2021, he joined his third team in Belgium, Anderlecht.
