Eduardo Guerrero is expected to fly to Ukraine today (Tuesday) to join Zuria Lugansk, which is coached by Patrick van Leeuwen. Last week, Maccabi Tel Aviv negotiated with the Ukrainian club, based on the amount they will pay at the end of the season if they want to purchase the Panamanian striker. Since Van Leeuwen really wanted Guerrero and since his assistant in Zuria, Raymond Etfeld, also coached Guerrero, there is a reasonable chance that at the end of the season the Ukrainians will want to acquire the striker who could not find himself this season at Beitar Jerusalem and was frozen in the last transfer window.
After lengthy negotiations, it was agreed that if Zoria wants to purchase Guerrero at the end of the season, it will pay Maccabi Tel Aviv a sum of half a million euros and will also leave a percentage of the future sale of the attacking player. The Panamanian, who had a good season at Maccabi Tel Aviv when Van Leeuwen coached it, has a contract for another season with the yellow club that also holds the option to extend the contract with him for one more season, so as far as Maccabi Tel Aviv is concerned, he is still considered an asset that can be profited from and that is why the talks with the Ukrainians lasted for more than a week.
Zoria recently returned to Ukraine after a training camp outside the country, and is now training at Dynamo Kyiv’s youth facility. The Ukrainian league is expected to return to activity soon and Guerrero is convinced that he can score in the team’s uniform and later also fulfill the ambitions he had in the past – to play in a league in Western Europe.
