The Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machadoreported this Wednesday the kidnapping of María Oropeza, campaign manager for both her and presidential candidate Edmundo González, in the state of Portuguesa.

“They kidnapped her!” Machado denounced through a message on her social network account X, in which she described Oropeza as “an extraordinarily brave, intelligent and generous young woman from Portuguesa.”

“She is the coordinator of Comando Con Venezuela in Portuguesa and has done an extraordinary job uniting and organizing the citizens of her state. The regime has just taken her away by force and we don’t know where she is,” he accused.

Machado finished the message calling on “everyone”, both inside and outside Venezuela, to “demand” the release of Oropeza, who shared on her social media the moment when the authorities entered her home.

“They are entering my home arbitrarily, there is no search warrant, they are destroying the door (…) “I have not done anything wrong, I am not a criminal, I am just another citizen who wants a different country,” Oropeza is heard saying moments before being arrested.

For its part, the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, He shared these images on his X account and denounced that said arrest “is added to the file of complaints of crimes against humanity of the regime” of President Nicolás Maduro.

“This repressive irrationality must be stopped now,” he said, adding that the Venezuelan government has made more than 1,000 arrests during protests over the election results.

A month ago, Machado also denounced the arbitrary detention of his security chief, Milciades Ávila, who was released a few hours later.
