Wed, 12:29·Software: Mac·bkIf the Mac is operated on an external display, many people use the USB hub built into the monitor to connect peripheral devices such as keyboards and mice. A MacBook is also charged via USB-C, so a power adapter is also not required. If the computer leaves the workplace, all cables do not have to be removed first. As it turns out, some external monitors have been causing problems since the last macOS update: the devices connected to the monitor are no longer recognized, which comes with some restrictions.

Monitor does not respond to accessories
According to a report from AppleInsider and feedback from some users on Reddit, some external monitors no longer work properly when macOS 14.4 is installed on the computer. The USB hub built into the screen no longer responds to peripheral devices, and in a few cases the monitor even stops working completely. Displays from Dell, Gigabyte and Samsung are particularly affected. A workaround is to connect accessories to the computer’s ports, but the MacBook Air in particular doesn’t exactly have a variety of connections. Some affected people were able to get rid of the problem after restarting the monitor. It also sometimes helped to switch between the options under “Allow connecting accessories” under “Privacy & Security” in the Mac settings.

Problems with ScanSnap scanners
In addition to the phenomenon described above, macOS 14.4 also causes difficulties for some ScanSnap scanners: the ScanSnap Home software often no longer finds devices. Aside from these annoyances, most feedback on the current version of the operating system is quite positive. For security reasons, installing the update definitely makes sense: Apple is closing over 60 gaps, including two serious zero-day exploits (see here).
