The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, met with the Secretary of State of the United States Anthony Blinken and discussed the need to reduce the escalation in Lebanon.
According to the US State Department, Blinken and Macron discussed developments in the Middle East, including working to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, the return of hostages to their homes, and an increase in humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.
They also discussed the need to reduce the escalation in Lebanon and commit to a diplomatic solution that allows civilians to return safely to their homes.
Blinken discussed with his French counterpart Stephane Ségournet in Paris the ongoing efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza to return the hostages to their homes and meet the humanitarian needs of the people of Gaza.
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said: “Blinken and Sigourney discussed the urgent need to ease tensions in Lebanon and across the Middle East.”
Blinken thanked his French counterpart for hosting the five-party transatlantic meeting in Paris.
Diplomatic representatives of America, France, Germany, Italy and Britain met in Paris to discuss the situation in Lebanon and the fate of negotiations to reach a cease-fire agreement in Gaza.
The meeting came the day after Blinken made a quick visit to the Egyptian capital, Cairo, in an effort to revive negotiations on an agreement between Hamas and the Zionist entity, and to reduce the escalation between Hezbollah and the entity, after after a wave of bombings on Tuesday and Wednesday that affected communication devices used by members of the Lebanese Hezbollah, and resulted in the deaths of more than 37 people. Nearly 3,000 others were injured.
