Emmanuel Macron (27.35%) and Marine Le Pen (23.97%) came out on top in the first round of the presidential election. The outgoing president, who arrived first, declared “to reach out to all those who want to work for France” in order to gather around him all sensitivities. The candidate of the National Rally Marine Le Pen estimated that “all those who did not vote for Macron are destined to join this rally”.
In the minutes following the announcement of the results, the voting instructions for the eliminated candidates multiplied. The vast majority of them called to vote for the outgoing president or to block Marine Le Pen.
On the left, the leader of La France insoumise, Jean-Luc Mélenchon (21.70%), who came third, called on his voters not to “not give a single voice to Mme Le Pen ». For their part, the candidate of the Socialist Party, Anne Hidalgo (1.73%), and the ecologist Yannick Jadot (4.49%) have explicitly called to vote for Emmanuel Macron.
On the right, the Republican candidate, Valérie Pécresse (4.73%) said from her campaign seat that she would vote “consciously” for Emmanuel Macron in the second round.
Further to the right, Eric Zemmour (7.02%) supported Marine Le Pen and Nicolas Dupont-Aignan (2.11%) called for Emmanuel Macron to be blocked.
