The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, stated that “Israel must stop killing babies and women in Gaza”. According to the president, “there is no justification” for bombing civilians and called for a ceasefire.
“In fact, today civilians are bombed. These babies, these ladies, these elderly people are bombed and killed. Therefore, there is no reason for this and no legitimacy. Therefore, we urge Israel to stop”, said Macron in an interview with the BBC, released on Friday (10).
“There is no other solution than a humanitarian pause, moving towards a ceasefire, which will allow us to protect all civilians who have no connection with terrorists,” he added.
The French leader stated that he recognizes the right to defense of Israel, which was attacked by the extremist group Hamas on October 7, but “appeals to [Israel] stop this bombing.” Macron also stressed that France “clearly condemns” the “terrorist” actions of the radical Palestinian organization.
France considers Hamas a terrorist group, as do the United States and the United Kingdom. “We share the pain [de Israel]. And we share your desire to get rid of terrorism. We know what terrorism means in France”, declared Macron, and highlighted that it is “extremely important” for democracies “to recognize that all lives matter”.
The conflict between Israel and Hamas, which has been going on for more than a month, has already left more than 12,400 victims. In Gaza alone, the deaths total 11,078. In Israel, there are 1,200 victims, according to a review by Israeli authorities.
With the advance of ground attacks carried out by Israel, the number of people evacuating the northern part of Gaza increases every day. According to estimates by the United Nations (UN), 1.5 million Palestinians have already left their homes since the start of the war, which represents around 70% of the enclave’s population.
