“Each year, a third of our high school students choose a vocational school. But, during their schooling, a third of them drop out, that is to say they leave the establishment without a baccalaureate or equivalent diploma. And for those who follow education until they graduate, less than 40% easily find a job after 6 months. Finally, for those who continue in higher education, only half of them will succeed”, poses the Head of State, who specifies that the aim of the reform is that “everyone can find a good job”.
Emmanuel Macron also unveiled his roadmap. “We must first of all better support families and young people during orientation, and offer prospects from middle school. We must then make profound changes to all the training courses which are doubly unsatisfactory: not allowing either the pursuit of studies or professional integration, ”he hammered while defending his balance sheet as the question. “Thanks to the reforms”, one million young people are in apprenticeship, that is “three times more than six years ago”.
A surprise visit to come?
The president will have to convince the vocational education unions who see in this reform “a strong threat to the future of vocational high schools” and a “project to disorganize the school vocational path”. After his announcements, Emmanuel Macron will have lunch with high school students. He could also be tempted again to make a surprise stopover during his trip to show that he can trade with the French despite the strong hostility over retirements. Nothing is planned at this stage, only indicates the Elysée.
On April 27, while demonstrators against retirement at 64 were waiting for him at the place where he was to give a speech on the abolition of slavery, he thus presented himself 100 kilometers away at the market of Dole (Jura) where he discussed with traders, customers and passers-by.
