French President Emmanuel Macron announced his intention to create an annual National Sports Day on September 14, Reuters reported, citing BTA.

“We need to unite around a popular sports celebration that takes place in the streets, in schools and in specialized sports centers,” Macron said in an interview with Parisienne newspaper.

France now has an annual music festival that takes place on June 21st. During it, free concerts are organized and budding musicians are given the opportunity to perform.

Today in Paris there will be a Parade of Champions by Olympic and Paralympic athletes. The parade will also honor the volunteers and officials who ensured the smooth running of the two major sporting events hosted by Paris. It is expected that the spectators of the parade will be up to 70,000 people.

About 4,000 police officers will be deployed to guard the event.

The French team at the Olympic Games in Paris finished with a record number of medals – 64, of which 16 were gold.
