Three people will be tried in September for showing middle fingers and insulting Emmanuel Macron during the president’s visit to Sélestat, Alsace, the Colmar prosecutor confirmed on Saturday.

These three demonstrators with no criminal record, two men and a woman, will appear on prior admission of guilt for contempt of person depositary of public authority, indicated the prosecutor, Catherine Sorita-Minard, confirming by specifying information from the newspaper L’ Alsace.

A fourth person had been arrested and taken into police custody, but his file was closed because the offense was insufficiently characterized.

The prosecutor of Colmar has also received two complaints concerning the voluntary power cut that occurred during the visit of the Head of State on Wednesday in the neighboring town of Muttersholtz.

The state filed a complaint for this cut which affected two municipalities, the prefecture of Bas-Rhin said on Saturday and Enedis also confirmed that it had filed a complaint.

A cut claimed by the union

This power outage occurred during the visit of the Head of State to the Mathis company. The factory specializing in wooden construction had found itself without power without plunging the premises into darkness. This action was claimed by the CGT and an investigation, led by the gendarmes of Sélestat, is in progress.

The mayor of Muttersholtz, Patrick Barbier, said on Saturday that he had not filed a complaint even if he “questions the method” claimed by the union: “It did not disturb the presidential visit. On the other hand, it caused problems for traders, the pharmacy could not function and it cut off the system for lifting the bed of a bedridden lady”.
