VIPITENO. The provisional estimate of damages after the fire that destroyed the warehouse of the Vipiteno company Mader in the production area of the town on Wednesday evening amounts to over one million euros.
The alarm for the thick smoke produced by the fire has also been called off, an alarm that on Wednesday evening had convinced the Civil Protection to issue an alert urging people to keep doors and windows closed and not to use air conditioning systems.
One of the owners of the construction and plant engineering company Peter Paul Mader, who had carried out safety checks the day before the fire, is having a hard time finding peace. What went up in smoke were hydraulic and electrical construction site materials stored in the department near the main office, which fortunately was not touched by the flames thanks to the intervention of 200 firefighters with 40 vehicles from all over the Alta Val d’Isarco and from Bressanone.
“As the images from our panoramic webcams show, the fire developed very quickly – commented the mayor of Vipiteno Peter Volgger – Initially it seemed like a fire limited to one area of the warehouse, but then, in a few moments, the flames became very high and a column of black and gray smoke rose from the structure visible for kilometers. If we managed to prevent the fire from spreading to the nearby building that houses the main headquarters with studios and offices, it is thanks to the timely intervention of dozens of firefighters. There were no injuries, but the damage is extensive. At the moment there are no hypotheses on the causes of the fire, we only know that it started in the warehouse”. The first alarm at the 112 operations center went off at 18:18 and, given the gravity of the situation, it was decided to mobilize the teams of volunteer firefighters from Vipiteno and the surrounding towns.
About 200 men were deployed in a matter of minutes and men with 5 rescue vehicles also left from the barracks in via Dante in Bressanone. The priority was to try to contain the flames that risked attacking the main headquarters where offices and studios are located. Certainly not an easy job, accompanied by the intervention of the Civil Protection, which, as mentioned, invited the population of Vipiteno to close doors, windows and air conditioners. The extinguishing operations were long and complex and what remains of the warehouse was also guarded during the night to avoid the risk of further outbreaks.
