Ulm is celebrating a lavish party: SSV has been promoted to the 2nd league – the crowning achievement of a remarkable season. The jubilation in the Donaustadion was correspondingly great.
After the 2-0 (0-0) against Viktoria Köln, the Ulm team can no longer be pushed out of one of the top two places and are repeating last year’s coup of SV Elversberg, which is currently in midfield in the 2nd league. The Sparrows are returning to the second division after 23 years – a historic success.
“This is the best day of my life. Unbelievable, honestly,” said captain Johannes Reichert after the final whistle. “Since last week, this city has been vibrating, shaking. Everyone wanted it so badly.”

Ulm coach Wörle is moved
After the final whistle, Thomas Wörle didn’t really know how to classify his feelings. “It’s hard to say. We were of course hoping that we could close the bag today. The fact that it actually happened is of course crazy. The team has achieved something really big,” said the visibly moved coach in an interview with SWR Sport.
“We started as promoted teams, as one of the certain relegated teams, and then we played such a season, so consistent in our performances and so close as a team. The way we played this game against a good opponent is typical the season,” Wörle continued: “It was convincing and stable from start to finish. We’re overjoyed, it’s unbelievable. I can’t even realize it yet.”
Markus Thiele also couldn’t quite grasp what the Sparrows had just achieved. “It’s outstanding what happened today. Above all, the path we took. We played in front of 1,200 spectators three years ago and now we’re in the middle of the second division. That’s outstanding,” said the Ulm managing director : “The fact that we were able to convince the masses of SSV Ulm again so quickly is unbelievable.”
SSV Ulm gives Wörle the chance – and is rewarded
For Wörle, the promotion is a huge success. It is his first position in men’s football; he had previously celebrated great success with the female footballers at FC Bayern. “It was always my goal to get there. And of course I’m grateful that I got the trust – without a doubt. You always have to get a chance to show whether you can do something. What we all have in common in Ulm “What we’ve put together over the last few years is crazy,” said the 42-year-old.
“It happened so quickly that we could hardly keep up. It wasn’t planned that way, but whether it was the team or the surroundings, it just went up at a rapid pace,” said Wörle. Nevertheless, they maintained their down-to-earth attitude, one of the central factors for the Sparrows’ success: “We are incredibly happy.”

So, is Thomas Wörle letting loose now? What type of party is he? “I’ll probably have to disappoint a lot of people. That’s not my world at all. But we have a lot of people who can do it well. I tend to hold back.”
Managing director Thiele is apparently going a little steeper. “I think we’re really going for it today. We’ve spontaneously planned something for the team. That’s why it’s going to be a long evening,” said the 42-year-old.
Leo Scienza doesn’t want any calls
Leo Scienza might go a little steeper. “I told my friends and family: ‘Don’t call me for the next two or three days,'” said the Brazilian, who scored the 1-0 goal against Cologne with a penalty: “We have to enjoy the moment and just celebrate .”
The 25-year-old then briefly and precisely summarized what everyone at SSV Ulm was thinking this Saturday. “I have no words. This season was just perfect,” said Scienza. A perfect season as a starting point for a perfect party. The night in Ulm is likely to be a very long one.
