Madras High Court Takes Up Case Against O. Panneerselvam

Madras High Court has taken up the case against former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam on its own initiative. The court is challenging the order of acquittal in a case related to the accumulation of assets beyond their income.

The case involves O. Panneer Selvam, his wife, sons, daughter, and brothers, who are accused of purchasing property in excess of their declared income. The Theni District Anti-Corruption Police had registered a case against them.

In a surprising move, the Madras High Court has decided to intervene and reexamine the case. This decision comes after O. Panneerselvam and others were acquitted of the charges. The court felt the need for a second look and has scheduled a hearing before Judge Anand Venkatesh.

The outcome of this case is highly anticipated, as it involves a former Chief Minister and his family. It remains to be seen whether the court will overturn the previous acquittal or confirm the decision.

O. Panneerselvam served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu twice, once as an interim Chief Minister in 2001 for a few months and again in 2016-2017 following the demise of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa.

The Madras High Court’s decision to take up this case on its own initiative reflects its commitment to upholding justice and ensuring transparency in the political system. It remains to be seen how this case will unfold and what implications it will have on the political landscape of Tamil Nadu.
