The Meenakshi-Sundareswarar Tirukkalyana ceremony, the main event of the world famous Madurai Chithrai Festival, was held amidst the ecstasy of the devotees.
The city of Madurai is abuzz with festivities. The main event of the festival was the Tirukkalyana ceremony for Meenakshi, the Queen of Madurai and Sundareswarar, the Lord Shiva. Devotees gathered at the Meenakshi Temple till early morning.
Two years later, devotees were allowed to witness the wedding live. For the Tirukkalyana ceremony, the stage of the ceremony was decorated with two thousand kilos of flowers. Meenakshi and Sundareswarar ascended the Silver Throne in four Chittirai streets. Later, the maiden swung in the Muthuramaiyar hall and awoke in the Tirukkalyana hall.
Meenakshiamman presented a beautiful wedding dress with pearls, diamond crown, ruby nose and gold coins. Pancha Kavyam and Swami Ambal bracing events were held at the wedding. Later, after the evening shift, the wedding took place in Gemini Lucknow. Meenakshi was adorned with a diamond-studded gold Thirumangalyam with Sundareswara blessings to recite the Veda Mantra and play the percussion. Devotees were thrilled to see the Meenakshi-Sundareswarar wedding.
Following the marriage ceremony, Meenakshi and Sundareswarar blessed the devotees at the wedding. Earlier, Thiruparankundram Subramania Swamy and Pavalakkanivai Perumal got up at the Tirukkalyana Mandapam to witness the wedding. During the Meenakshiamman wedding, women in the streets of Chithirai exchanged Puthumangalya rope.
Thousands of devotees gathered outside the temple to witness the Tirukkalyana ceremony. Huge LED screens were placed outside the temple for them to watch and worship at the wedding. Madurai was rocked by one of the main festivities of the Chithrai festival, the Tirukkalyana ceremony of the Queen of Madurai.
