President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro blamed WhatsApp messenger in collecting spy data on residents of the Bolivarian Republic, which were then used to intimidate supporters of the current authorities.
“They [оппозиция] used mechanisms such as WhatsApp, which transmitted [оппозиции] spy data that you will probably study,” Maduro addressed the leadership of the republic’s armed forces during a speech on the occasion of the 19th anniversary of the founding of the Strategic Operational Command of the Venezuelan Armed Forces, broadcast by VTV.
Maduro said that many government employees received threatening messages via messenger, which also contained their personal data and the data of their relatives.
“Mechanisms such as WhatsApp were used, espionage was carried out among the population, as a result of which many public leaders received threatening messages. This was an operation of psychological terrorism,” Maduro added.
