An event entitled “Maestro Niyazi – 40 Years in Memories” was held in Baku at the Niyazi House Museum, a branch of the State Museum of Musical Culture of Azerbaijan, dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the death of the outstanding Azerbaijani conductor and composer, People’s Artist of the USSR and Azerbaijan, laureate of the State Prizes Maestro Niyazi, Day.Az reports.
The speakers included the director of the State Museum of Musical Culture of Azerbaijan, Honored Cultural Figure Alla Bayramova, head of the museum department Khanim Abdinova, senior researcher Azira Abdullayeva, journalist-researcher, Honored Cultural Figure Alisaftar Huseynov, director of the French International Academy of Music, pianist, Honored Artist of Azerbaijan Adila Aliyeva, senior researcher of the research laboratory for the restoration and improvement of national instruments Fazilya Nabiyeva, Niyazi’s relative Sahib Gadimov, who spoke about the invaluable merits of the Maestro in the field of enriching and popularizing the Azerbaijani musical culture, shared their memories, footage with the memories of outstanding musical figures about Niyazi and video recordings of concerts under the direction of the Maestro were presented. The formation of the Azerbaijani national conducting school is associated with his name. Along with the fact that Niyazi was an excellent conductor, he was also a remarkable composer, whose works are still heard and loved by listeners today.
The concert program featured soloists of the Azerbaijan State Chamber Orchestra named after Gara Garayev, laureates of international competitions Togrul Abdullayev (violin), Aidan Rustamzade (cello), Ulkar Mamedova (piano), Gullubeyim Mamedova (vocals), musicologist and vocalist Sevinj Ibragimova, Ulkar Mamedova (piano).
It should be noted that Niyazi was born on August 20, 1912 in Tbilisi in the family of the famous composer and theater figure Zulfugar Hajibeyli, brother of the great composer, founder of Azerbaijani classical music Uzeyir Hajibeyli. Niyazi, a descendant of a famous musical dynasty, became the first Azerbaijani professional conductor to receive worldwide recognition. The formation and development of the Azerbaijani conducting school is associated with his name. Bulbul, Rashid Behbudov, Muslim Magomayev, Lutfiyar Imanov and other outstanding performers shone on stage with the orchestra under his direction. Maestro Niyazi died on August 2, 1984 in Baku.
