ChimborazoIn response to the emergency caused by heavy rains in the Penipe canton, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), through the Chimborazo District Directorate, delivered bananas to be used as feed for their animals.

A total of four tons of bananas, from the province of Los Ríos, were delivered to affected sectors of the parishes: Matus, El Altar, Puela, Matriz and Bayushig.

This delivery was carried out in coordination with the Municipal Government of Penipe, ensuring that the food reaches those who need it most. In addition to bananas, 7,200 kilograms of silage and 3,200 kilograms of hay have been delivered to these sectors to feed 654 animals.

Jorge Ordóñez, District Director of Chimborazo, said that thanks to the coordination and support of the District Directorate of Los Ríos, this non-exportable banana has been made available to mitigate the need for livestock feed due to the lack and scarcity of pastures in these sectors.

He also mentioned that the entity’s technicians are in the area providing technical assistance and gathering information in order to directly assist the affected producers.

Fausto Cevallos, a producer from the canton, said that the support provided to the affected farmers has been fundamental to ensure the well-being of the livestock, which is one of the main activities of the sector.
