Manabi, A total of $39,942 was received by 44 producers from various cantons in the province of Manabí, whose yellow corn crops were affected by excessive rain in the 2023 winter season.

The aforementioned amount corresponds to the compensation provided by the CampoSeguro Project, executed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), throughout the country so that producers protect their crops in the presence of climatic phenomena, pests and/or uncontrollable diseases.

During the delivery of the compensation checks, the District Director of the MAG in Manabí, Leopoldo Viteri, invited the producers to insure their crops, since the insurance covers the amount according to the investment, prior to the incident.

83.5% of the placement and acquisition of agricultural insurance policies is concentrated in Manabí, according to the data provided by the CampoSeguro project, said the District Director.

The CampoSeguro Project is responsible for designing and implementing policies and tools aimed at the insurance and protection of agricultural productive sectors.

Daniel Vera, who received his compensation check, thanked the State for the support it provides. “Now it is safer to plant: this money that I have recovered I will invest in the production of the current winter season,” said Vera.

The Government subsidizes 60%, 40% and 20% of the cost of insurance. Farmers can insure their crops to avoid losses in the event of uncontrollable weather events, pests and diseases.

Among the products to be insured include: rice, peas, broccoli, onion, beans, hard and soft corn, potato, pepper, quinoa, kidney tomato, banana, plantain, avocado, cocoa, coffee, oil palm, pineapple, pitahaya, sugar cane and forest plantations.
