Quito, The basket of Family Farming was presented at the facilities of the National Secretariat for Planning and Development (Senplades), an initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) so that producers can market their products directly.

The basket is an initiative of the Regional Association for Food Sovereignty of the Kayambi Territory (RESAK), which is part of the Peasant Family Agriculture, and provides the service of baskets containing vegetables, fruits, vegetables, and greens, grown with sustainable practices.

Marco Oviedo, Vice Minister of Rural Development of the MAG, said that these commercial links are the materialization of efforts to favor productive chains. “At the MAG, we have the objective of shortening productive chains; that is, bringing the producer and the consumer closer together,” said Oviedo.

The objective of this initiative is for producers to market their products directly to consumers. In this way, producers win by receiving a higher income, without the presence of intermediaries, and consumers win by receiving fresh and healthy products for their diet.

Nelly Morocho, a producer at RESAK, said she is grateful that public institutions open their doors to them and they can market their products directly. “I represent seven women’s associations that work in an agroecological way and produce vegetables and fruits that are healthy and good for families,” said Morocho.

Around 30 AFC baskets will be delivered at Senplades on a monthly basis, and public officials will consume local, high-quality products. It is expected that more public servants will join this initiative in order to build The New Ecuador, an Ecuador that solves and generates opportunities for all.
