Magistrate of the Court of Accounts prohibits Bolsonaro from using or selling jewelry – 03/10/2023 – Brazil

by time news

The minister of the Federal Court of Accounts, Augusto Nardes, prohibited Jair Bolsonaro from using or selling luxury items that were sent to him as a gift from the government of Saudi Arabia through former minister Bento Albuquerque (Mines and Energy).

According to the decision, the former president will have to keep the material “intact, as a guardian.”

A set of jewels estimated at R$ 16 million (US$ 3 million) was seized by the Federal Revenue Service in 2021, but a second batch entered the country without declaring it and was incorporated into Bolsonaro’s personal collection.

Nardes determined that the former agent and Bento Albuquerque be heard about the indications of irregularity in the entry of articles.

Bolsonaro’s private collection during his visit to Planalto totals 19,470 objects, according to a list prepared by the Presidency to respond to requests made through the Access to Information Law.

The list includes 44 watches, 74 knives, 54 necklaces, 673 caps, 448 football shirts and 245 protective masks, as well as ammunition and a bulletproof vest.
