Magnus Cort (EF) was the winner of the third stage, a section of 203 kilometers that had a couple of third-category prizes and a flat finish between the towns of Faro and Tavira. With this victory, Cort Nielsen consolidates his lead in the general classification with the final two days to go.

In the first kilometres, a breakaway of six riders from continental squads was formed which enlivened much of the long day; the cut managed to have a 5-minute rent on the largest lot, commanded by the men of Ef Education and the teams of sprinters such as Soudal.

The adventure ended with 32 kilometers to go, giving way to a level cut starring Tobias Foss (Jumbo-Visma), Rui Costa (Intermarché – Circus – Wanty), Valentin Madouas (Groupama – FDJ), Filippo Ganna accompanied by Tom Pidcock (ineos) and leader Magnus Cort, who opened up a gap close to half a minute forcing Soudal to chase again.

The sextet won the pulse of the lot, as Cort launched his sprint 400 meters from the finish line, raised his arms, escorted by Filippo Ganna who saved some important seconds ahead of the final time trial. The other members of the cut were neutralized by the great batch where Jordi Meeus completed the podium of the day.

Tomorrow the queen stage will be held, a new day for climbers, which will have four ports of passage in the 178 kilometers that connect the town of Albufeira and Alto do Malhão.
