The Eknath Shinde government won the confidence vote in the Maharashtra Assembly.
Eknath Shinde took over as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra after the Uddhav Thackeray government was toppled last week. Subsequently, a vote of confidence was held in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on the order of the Governor. BJP’s Sudhin Mungantiwar and Shiv Sena’s Shinde faction’s Bharat Gokawale brought the motion of confidence in the government.
Subsequently, the number of MLAs supporting and opposing the government was held as per the insistence of the opposition parties. 164 people voted in favor of the Shinde government while 144 votes were required for the government’s victory. 99 people voted against.
The confidence motion was declared successful. Meanwhile, 2 more MLAs from Uddhav Thackeray’s side have switched to Eknath Shinde’s side. They voted in favor of the Shinde government. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has agreed to hear the case filed by Thackeray’s Shiv Sena against the Speaker’s approval of the whip appointed by Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena.
