NEW DELHI: Maharashtra police have been told to ‘be vigilant’ during a protest in Mumbai demanding the removal of loudspeakers in mosques. Maharashtra DGP Rajnish Seth said that all measures will be taken to maintain law and order in the state.
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray’s speech will be examined. Legal action will be taken if necessary. The army is ready to face any law and order situation. Strict action will be taken against those who destroy the peace.
All police leave was canceled. The State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) has 87 companies and 30,000 home guards deployed across the state. No one should take the law into their own hands. Peace must be maintained ‘- Rajnish Seth clarified.
During a rally in Aurangabad, Raj Thackeray issued an ultimatum to remove loudspeakers above mosques by May 3. If not, Thackeray has made it clear that he is not responsible for what happens next. From May 4, the MNS chief had threatened that Hindus would recite Hanuman Chalisa louder than loudspeakers in mosques.
