The incident of fraud of Rs 1.12 crore to a woman from Alibaug in Raigad district of Maharashtra by claiming to send gifts containing gold and cash from England has caused a great shock.
The woman, a retired court superintendent, met a man on a social networking site in June this year. The man said he lives in Manchester, England.
At this stage, the person and some others called the woman and said that they had sent a gift containing gold and cash from England. But they got Rs 1.12 crore from the woman saying that they have to pay customs duty to get the gift. They subsequently cut off communication with the woman.
A case of fraud and conspiracy has been registered against the unidentified persons based on the woman’s complaint. Police are looking for the culprits.
