Every weekend, the web radio of “Tsugi” accompanies the music book of “Liberation”

The discovery: Maïcee, following in the ideas

In an era where sound mixing is now more popular than ever, one country stands out in particular. Historically recognized for its musical fusions, whether between rock and electronic music (Primal Scream) techno and reggae/dub (jungle, drum’n’bass) or countless other encounters of the same genre, England will never have stopped experimenting. To the point of influencing its neighbors across the Channel.

Listening to Maïcee’s music, one could indeed say to oneself that this young artist should have been born on the other side of the sea. Because if she skilfully plays with words in the language of Shakespeare – and with almost no accent – young rapper is however from Montpellier. It is indeed on the side of England that her heart leans however since younger, in particular after having gone to drum’n’bass evenings in the Hérault. A musical interest that will then lead him to decide, after several years spent rapping on rather old school productions, to breathe new life into his music.

The result : my brain is weirD, a first EP released in total independence (and partly financed via crowdfunding) where rap and electronic music mix in a joyful crash. In the same inventive and experimental vein as the artists of the British label NUXXE (Coucou Chloé, Shygirl) Maïcee raps entirely in English on productions halfway between techno (dramA), trap (fooL) ou drum’n’bass (cracK) to evoke the emotions of a young woman seeking her place in her time. Failing to have all the answers to this vast question, the young rapper seems to have found the beginning of something with this EP. And it looks particularly danceable.

To the playlist

fear so TNMCP

A few years ago, we really liked the mixed and playful pop of this young Belgian singer. Back with a touching ego trip whose swinging guitars are close to those of Vampire Week-end. A success.

Shadow Fête

Hip-hop isn’t just about big cities. The proof with this talented rapper of Aveyron origin. Its poetic flow which sometimes flirts with the song hovers over a powerful 2 step beats. Step into the light.

Tomasi Better Than Before feat. Thirty

A story of losers who take responsibility. A title with communicative energy by two young shoots of this new French scene which likes so much to blur the codes with rap, electro and rock. Preferably at the same time.

Incredible Bongo Band Apache

If this all-percussion instrumental, reissued for its 50th anniversary, sounds familiar to you, nothing could be more normal. It’s one of the most sampled titles by the hip-hop and electronic scenes since Grandmaster Flash in 1981. A sign of quality.

Nia Archives Conveniency (Bakey remix)

The new British sensation, who brings drum’n’bass up to date, adding a nice thread of voice. A very British pop, electronic, groovy and above all accessible. A talent to follow.
