JAKARTA – National Winning Team ( TPN) Ganjar-Mahfud highlighting social assistance programs ( social assistance ) which is currently being carried out by the government. TPN considers that the distribution of social assistance ahead of the 2024 elections is prone to being used as a tool for political interests and benefiting certain couples.

“It is also suspected that there is an opportunity for politicization of social assistance which could be interpreted as benefiting certain candidate pairs. Even though this social assistance is a government program and credit should be given to all parties contesting in the presidential election this time. But public perception could lead that this social assistance is a kindness that benefits certain candidate pairs ,” said the TPN Todung Mulya Legal Division in a written statement quoted on Sunday (31/12/2023).

According to this senior lawyer, postponing the provision of social assistance can be done to maintain fairness in the upcoming 2024 presidential election contest.

“We did say that if conditions were like this, in order to maintain fairness in political contestations, postponing the distribution of social assistance could be a consideration until the presidential election process was completed,” said Todung.

Todung said that the policy of postponing social assistance was not popular because it would be considered detrimental to the people. “We are aware of this and therefore we are very careful in saying that the idea of postponing social assistance is not only for the sake of fairness in the presidential election but also so that there is an equal level playing field. This is still in the context of public policy,” he said.

According to Todung, the postponement of the provision of social assistance should be a public call. TPN also ensures that this call only delays, not eliminates social assistance which is really needed by the community.

“So what we are putting forward is a public policy call that we must pay attention to in order to maintain fairness in the election. There is absolutely no intention to eliminate social assistance for the people. What is there is to maintain fairness in the presidential election. The Ganjar-Mahfud candidate pair themselves have packaged a social welfare policy “in the Kartu Sakti program, where the aggregation of welfare funds or social assistance is integrated. And this shows Ganjar-Mahfud’s commitment to guaranteeing people’s welfare rights,” he said.
