Salem: In the Salem power circle, 21 sub-stations have only Nethimedu, with a capacity of 230 KV. The rest are of 110 KV capacity each. Through it, electricity is distributed to 10.5 lakh connections. A list of monthly maintenance outage day and time to be carried out at the sub-station for uniform power supply is published earlier and power outages are carried out accordingly.
In the current February list, for Karuppur, Odiyapatti, Mettupatti, Salem substation, 8 hours; Allowing power outage for 5 hours to other substations has caused displeasure to substation, divisional office assistant engineers.
The work can be completed only if maintenance blackout is allowed for 8 hours for all the substations. Otherwise, it will be half-completed and subsequent technical glitches will lead to unannounced blackouts, Assistant Engineers said.
Erode Zone Chief Engineer Indrani said, “This will be brought to the notice of the Salem Circle Superintending Engineer and steps will be taken to change the power cut time.”
