With only a few days left before Donostia plunges into the most noisy and crowded week of the year, plans that can be made in quiet places may be attractive to some. One of them is the Illustrator’s Corner in the Aiete Cultural Center, where the drawings of Maite Rosende from Donostia are on display since June 15. As they will continue until September 11th, there is still time to immerse yourself in the colorful world of Rosende’s illustrations.

Maite Rosend (Donostia, 1991) took the path of design and drawing at a very young age. He finished his artistic high school and studied the advanced degree in Wall Painting at the High School of Art and Design in Barcelona. Then he did the High Level Illustration cycle at the Llotja School, Barcelona. In addition to continuous training in artistic disciplines, he also received training in the areas of graphic design, photography and video editing. He is a member of the Basque Irudigileak and Galtzagorri Associations.

He has done a lot of work on posters and in 2015, 2016 and 2017 he won the poster competition of the Donostia Film Festival, with the works done for different departments. He also works in the field of muralism, in 2021 he participated in the Art Meetings of Altza Apain Street in Donostia and the Asalto Festival in Zaragoza.

He works in book illustration. In fact, together with Pello Añorga, he has just illustrated the book ‘Din dilin dan’ (Denonartean, 2022) consisting of songs, poems and texts collected from the Basque oral tradition and will publish with the same publisher in the autumn of 2021 ‘Guruyi’, a comic book and yoga card game written by Jon Lorente. . He did the illustrations for the book ‘El viaje de la luz’ (Diquesi publishing house), together with Puño and Carmen Saldaña. The latter won the prize for the design of the book organized by the City of Madrid in 2016. In recognition of his illustration work, Rosende’s work has been selected in the 2021 Ibero-American Illustration catalog.

He has given illustration workshops for children and adults in different art centers of Donostia, Zaldi Urdina and Undermount, among others; and has done works in the field of illustration and graphic design for different organizations. He has held solo and group exhibitions in the Arteuparte Gallery and Zaldi Urdina in Donostia, the Gko Gallery in Tolosa and the Aranburu Palace. She is one of those people who are inspired by the way children see the world, and she is not afraid to draw. In his opinion, you don’t have to “think a lot” to draw. Rosende’s goal is to “have fun” by drawing.

Since the opening of the Illustrator’s Corner in the Aiete Cultural Center in October 2012, the main illustrators of the Basque Country, both classic and new, have passed through it. It is closed on Mondays and holidays. In summer, it is open from Tuesday to Friday and Sundays from 10:00 to 14:00, and on Saturdays from 10:00 to 14:00 / 16:30 to 20:00.
