In the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of the island of Sicily this morning, February 26, naval exercises of NATO countries called Dynamic Manta will start, Day.Az reports.

The annual NATO maritime exercise will involve troops and ships from Turkey, Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, Britain and the United States. The exercise involves seven submarines, several surface ships, as well as aircraft from NATO member countries.

“The two-week exercise, which focuses on improving anti-submarine warfare capabilities and increasing the effectiveness of naval missions, underscores NATO’s commitment to strengthening collective defense and crisis response capabilities in a region of strategic importance,” NATO Maritime Command said in a statement.

It is noted that the Mediterranean Sea, with its complex underwater topography, provides an ideal backdrop for the exercises.

Exercise Dynamic Manta also serves as a platform to test and strengthen the Alliance’s crisis response capabilities. The exercise, under the tactical leadership of Rear Admiral Pasquale Esposito, is intended to demonstrate NATO’s readiness to defend its members against any threat.
