Major Ravi Says Keerthi Chakra Character Is Based on Him

Director Major Ravi revealed in an interview that the iconic character Major Mahadevan, played by Mohanlal in the 2006 film Keerthi Chakra, was directly based on his own real-life experiences.

Director Major Ravi has stated that Mohanlal’s role as Major Mahadevan in his debut feature film was modeled directly on himself. The film, which arrived in theaters in 2006, marked a significant milestone for its lead actor and established a long-running cinematic franchise centered around the protagonist.

Real-Life Connections and Cast Origins in Keerthi Chakra

Beyond the central character inspired by the director’s own background, the film drew heavily from personal acquaintances. The character played by Jeeva in the movie was shaped by Captain Anil Kumar, a longtime associate who currently works as the director’s manager. Their professional and personal rapport stretches back 38 years, originating from a meeting in 1988.

Major Ravi said, My films are all my experiences.

That foundational synchronization between the filmmaker and his associates informed the narrative texture of the production. The 2006 release featured a prominent ensemble cast alongside Mohanlal and Jeeva, including Biju Menon, Gopika, Lakshmi Gopalaswamy, Nawab Shah, and Shammi Thilakan. The project was backed by producer R.B. Choudary with cinematography handled by Thiru.

The Legacy and Evolution of the Major Mahadevan Franchise

The resonance of the central character created a clear trajectory for future cinematic installments. Following the success of the initial 2006 feature, the character of Major Mahadevan returned across multiple subsequent war and action dramas directed by the filmmaker. Those later entries in the overarching series include Kurukshetra, Kandahar, and 1971: Beyond Borders, cementing a multi-film narrative arc born from the director’s early personal experiences.
