Materials needed

1. Prepare the school cone blank

First you should decide how big the school cone should be. A length of approx. 15 cm is sufficient for a small bag. A classic large school cone has a length of about 70 cm.

Using the ruler or tape measure, mark the length you chose on one side of the cardboard. Then tie the piece of yarn or cord to the tip of a pencil and place the tip on the mark you drew.

Now tighten the yarn and “pin” it with your finger at the bottom corner of the photo cardboard. Now draw a semicircle with the always taut yarn.

You should now have a quarter circle drawn in. Next you need to determine the perimeter of the opening. A small cone usually has a circumference of 22 cm, while the large 70 cm long school cone has an opening circumference of approx. 52 cm.

Using the tape measure, mark the length on the circular compass line and connect the dot to the corner of the photo card. Add an approx. 1 cm wide line at the edge as an adhesive edge – you can start cutting.

Stick a strip of double-sided tape to the glued edge and roll the paper into its characteristic pointed shape.

2. Make a school bag closure

The closure of a school cone is traditionally made from waterproof crepe paper. To do this, cut a piece according to the circumference of the opening of the school cone.

Then apply some paper glue to the outside of the edge of the school cone blank and stick the cut crepe paper over there.

Attention: Some glue sticks discolor crepe paper. Look for a solvent-free product. It is best to do a test on a small piece of crepe paper first.

3. Decorate the school cone

Now comes the exciting part: the school cone blank is decorated. You should find out beforehand what topic your child wants.

Dinosaurs, unicorns or rather ninjas? There are many popular school cone motifs!

There are no limits to your imagination here. Use the colorful paper and decorative materials such as glitter or googly eyes to make the bag as cheerful as possible, after all, starting school is also a cheerful occasion.

4. Close the school bag
