If your smartphone isn’t running smoothly, you don’t have to buy a new one straight away. A few settings can often help the phone run faster again.

If you want your Android smartphone to run more smoothly, you should first turn off moving live wallpapers – both on the lock screen and on the home screen. Live wallpapers are quite resource-hungry.

To deactivate it, simply press your finger on an empty spot on the home screen until – depending on the device – the corresponding menu opens. There you can also set the complex visual refinements used to arrange the apps or open and close folders. Here, too, you can save computing power by choosing the simplest option.

To adjust computationally intensive animations, you need to look at the so-called developer options, which must first be activated. To do this, go to the settings and look for the “build number”. As soon as you have tapped it seven times, the options are activated – you may have to confirm this step by entering your PIN.

You will then find the item “Developer options” in the settings. For entries such as animation time and other animation or effect-related entries, set a lower or the lowest possible value – around 0.5. Animations can also be switched off completely, but this will take some getting used to when using the smartphone.

Please note that the functionality varies depending on the smartphone manufacturer and operating system version, and the menu paths can sometimes be very different. You should also only enable the developer options if you are sure.
