Making of ‘Ponniyin Selvan’: Mani Ratnam sued for action

A case has been filed in the High Court of Chennai against director Mani Ratnam for making the film ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ by distorting history.

In this regard, the petition filed by Charles Alexander, a lawyer from Anna Nagar, Chennai: In the film directed by director Mani Ratnam, adapted from Kalki’s Ponni’s novel Selvan, he has distorted history.

Vandiyadevan, the main character, has misused the name and misused history for his own gain. A proper research should be done before making a film based on history.

While Kalki has also used real names from history, director Mani Ratnam has twisted history in this film to insult the Cholas who excelled in war tactics.

In this regard, he said that action should be taken on the complaints filed against him by the Central Government and the Archaeological Survey of India.

It is expected that this petition will come up for hearing soon.
