Making superfluous liquid: Oxfam shop now also accepts donations

by time news

For two years now, donated items have been sold for a good cause in the Oxfam shop on Berliner Allee 69.

So far, all the things offered here came from other Oxfam shops that have their own donation acceptance. From now on it is also possible to donate things in the Weißenseer Oxfam shop. Textiles of all kinds, books and other media, glass and porcelain goods, shoes, jewelry, bags, decorative items and much more are accepted and offered here, reports Alina Bauer from the Oxfam press office. Please note that no furs or animal leather goods will be accepted. In addition, all things that are offered as a donation should be clean, whole or functional.

The special thing about the Oxfam shop on Berliner Allee is that it is run exclusively by volunteers. Many of them are from the area. One of them is Sylvia Kusche. “I’ve been with the shop since it opened,” she says. “I became aware of a contribution in the Berlin week. I’m retired and looking for a way to connect with other people. Here I have the opportunity to do so, I have a task and can also help others,” she says.

The volunteers advise customers, for example, in the book and media sector or in the clothing sector. Because the shop now also accepts donations and has a relatively large shop area, additional volunteers are always welcome. The only requirement: You should have five hours a week to be able to fill a shift in one day. As a volunteer, you can help to “make superfluous things liquid for a good cause,” says Alina Bauer.

If you are interested in volunteering in the Oxfam shop, please contact the shop or call 030/92 37 80 75. The Weißenseer Oxfam shop, Berliner Allee 69, is open Mon-Fri 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sat 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Further information: https://shops.oxfam.de/shops/oxfam-shop-berlin-weissensee.
