Malaga city will have in 2026 a CaixaForum, a cultural center run by the La Caixa Foundation, which will have two exhibition halls and multipurpose rooms, dedicated to the different branches of plastic arts, culture, scientific dissemination and the humanities, as well as with an important technological side.

In fact, De la Torre has considered that this agreement supposes a “step forward” in the cultural strategy of the city as well as the response to the “longing” to enter that league of big cities with a cultural, educational and informative commitment such as the one offered by these spaces.

“We put ourselves on an equal footing with Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Zaragoza, Seville… with which there is no longer a situation of inequality. It is a plot of 8,200 gross square meters, 5,500 net taking into account the space reserved for green areas or roads, which currently has use of public parking.

The “most unique” center

The construction of the building will be borne by the La Caixa Foundation, which has already announced that it will be a “singular” CaixaForum, the “most innovative”, as stressed by the Deputy General Director of the La Caixa Foundation, Elisa Durán.

Beyond the exhibition rooms, another of the peculiarities of this center will be its multipurpose rooms, which will function as an educational space with a wide range of themes, although with one main objective: narrow the digital divide.
