Former Chelsea French international defender Malang Sarr, 23, will be loaned to Monaco for a season, we learned on Tuesday evening from sources close to the Principality club. Left-handed central defender, Sarr was trained in Nice where he was launched as a professional by Lucien Favre at 17 against Rennes on August 14, 2016 and had, that day, scored the winning goal for the Nice club.

Free of any contract and after 102 L1 matches with OGC Nice, Sarr had signed five years at Chelsea at the end of August 2020, before being quickly loaned to FC Porto, where he discovered the Champions League. Back at Chelsea last season, Sarr played 21 games with the London club, including the Club World Cup final, won on February 12 against Brazilians Palmeiras (2-1 ap).

Sources familiar with the matter, the signing of the paying loan of Sarr, which amounts to 0.75 million euros, should be formalized in the coming days. This loan is accompanied by a purchase option of 12 million euros.
