India’s star player BV Sindhu left the tournament on Wednesday after suffering a shock defeat in the first round of the Malaysian Open badminton tournament.

He was missing the field for the last 5 months due to injury and played in this match. In the first round, he faced the tough challenger Carolina Marin of Spain. In this fast-paced match, Sindhu, who was ranked 6th in the tournament, lost to Marin 12-21, 21-10, 15-21.

Another Indian Malavika Bansod lost 9-21, 13-21 to No. 2 seed Ahn Se Young of South Korea.

India’s HS in Aadhaar Singles Pranai qualified for the next round by defeating his fellow Indian and 7th ranked Lakshaya Chennai in 22-24, 21-12, 21-18 games.

In the men’s doubles, Satviksairaj/Chirak Shetty defeated South Korea’s Choi Sol Kyu/Kim Won Ho 21-16, 21-13 to advance to the second round. However, in the women’s doubles, Ashwini Bhatt/Shika Gautham lost 10-21, 12-21 to Thailand’s Suphisara Pewsampran/Budita Subhajirakul.
