Male: Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has said that it has started surveillance with drones purchased from Turkey. MNDF has also shared a video, which shows the flight of a drone purchased under the agreement with Turkey. In the video posted by Aviators Maldives, the Bykar TB2 brand drone is seen in flight. According to aviators this drone was operated in Nunu Maafaru.
Turkish drones purchased under the MVR 560 million deal arrived in the Maldives last week, Adhaadhoo reports. It was temporarily deployed to Maafaru. These will later be taken to Hadhal Hanimadhoo. The hangar at Maafaru Airport was temporarily handed over to the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) as a garage to operate the drones. The hangar is leased until August.

Used in surveillance missions

Baykar TB2 drones purchased from Turkey are used for surveillance missions. Besides, these drones also have the capability to be equipped with weapons and carry out armed missions. The Mohamed Muizzoo-led government of Maldives has not disclosed any information related to the drones other than assuring efforts to protect the country’s waters.

These Turkish drones have caused havoc in the war from Armenia to Ukraine. Pakistan has also been using these killer drones.
