Malfunctions in bridge and signal systems cause disruptions for train traffic.

by time news

Train traffic between Gothenburg and Kungsbacka is experiencing delays on Friday afternoon due to a signal error between Lindome and Kungsbacka, causing trains to slow down. Some trains have been canceled, while others have been redirected to later departures. This is necessary to avoid train congestion, and there is currently no timeline for when the signal error will be resolved. Meanwhile, all train traffic over the railway bridge in Vänersborg has been suspended until at least Monday due to damage that needs to be repaired urgently. Replacement buses will be arranged for road users to Vänersborg from Öxnared. The stoppage could last between three to six weeks, according to Trafikverket’s press communicator Katarina Wolfram.

Train traffic between Gothenburg and Kungsbacka runs slowly on Friday afternoon. The reason is a signal error between Lindome and Kungsbacka, which forces the trains running the route to reduce their speed.

– Some trains are canceled and others are referred to the next departure, says Jane Warik, disturbance coordinator at Västtrafik.

The need to cancel certain trains is due to the fact that there would otherwise have been a train queue. There is no forecast for when the signal error may be fixed.

– We have no idea how long this will last, says Warik, and adds that about ten departures have been affected so far.

Stop for train traffic in Vänersborg all weekend

At the same time, a little to the north, all train traffic over the railway bridge in Vänersborg has been suspended at least until Monday. After an inspection, damage was found in the structure, which must now be repaired as soon as possible.

– They were not satisfied with what they had seen and decided that it needs to be fixed. This means train stops between Öxnared and Vänersborg, and it also affects the stretch Uddevalla-Borås-Varberg, says Warik.

In the worst case, however, the stop could be much longer than just over the weekend, says Trafikverket’s press communicator Katarina Wolfram to P4 Väst.

– There is an acute damage to the bridge that we have to take care of. At worst, this stoppage can last for three to six weeks. But it may also be that you can do some initial action quite quickly so that it is ready sooner.

Replacement buses from Öxnared will be arranged for road users to Vänersborg.
