As in Benin and almost everywhere in Africa, the digitization of certain public administration services is now emerging in Mali. And for good reason, the Malian government has taken an important step in its transition to digitizing its administration by making digital payment mandatory for the provision of certain public services. The aim of this measure adopted by an inter-ministerial decree on 19 July 2024, according to the official press release, is to make Mali’s public administration more effective and efficient.
The following are some services that are affected by this decision.
Now in Mali, citizens are obliged to use digital payment methods to pay taxes and other duties owed to the State. Also, for any and all fines, they will have to pay digitally, as well as obtain documents of civil status such as: the secure biometric national identity card, passport, certificate of nationality, judicial record, entry visa to Mali, driving license, registration document, toll and balance, etc.
According to the Malian government, these measures will gradually enter their active phase. Therefore, the country’s Minister of Finance is responsible for issuing orders to periodically expand the list of services concerned.
The main objective of this measure, according to the Goïta administration, is to facilitate access to public services for all Malians through a simplified payment method, to reduce excessive waiting times.
