A case has been filed in the Kerala High Court against customers for charging parking fees to park their vehicles in shopping malls. Judge PV Kunhikrishnan, who heard the case, said that according to building codes, there must be adequate parking space at the construction site. Building permission is granted only on that condition.
As such, the question is whether it is possible to charge for parking alone after the building is constructed. The judge said in his order that in my personal view it was not possible.

The court directed the Kalamassery municipality to file a statement on its position on the matter and adjourned the case till January 28.
When Malayalam film director Pali Vadakkan visited Lulu Mall on December 2 last year, he was told to pay Rs 20 to park his vehicle there. When director Polly initially refused to pay the parking fee, the mall employee threatened to close the exit doors. He then paid the fee and left.
Following this, Pali Vadakkan has filed a case in the Kerala High Court in this regard. In it, it is the responsibility of the mall to provide free parking for customers coming to the mall. He said in his petition that they could not charge customers who come there.
However, Lulu Mall’s attorney, who completely rejected director Pali North’s argument, said they have a license to charge parking fees.
