Then his hat string broke.

A duel between the most famous German TV chefs went into the next round on Sunday evening. In “Mälzer and Henssler deliver”, Tim Mälzer (52) and Steffen Henssler (51) do not find out beforehand who they are supposed to cook for and deliver to. Only hints that arrive from time to time give the chefs tips on what kind of menu they might want.

But it’s not easy to just start cooking in peace: it’s not just the allotted preparation time that puts Mälzer and Henssler under pressure, celebrity guests who stop by from time to time also ask for an extra dish during the cooking session.

Tim Mälzer and Steffen Henssler were sweating over their first challenge when suddenly “Tagesschau” spokesman Constantin Schreiber (44) walked in. Of course he was hungry.

While the two chefs planned to feed the celebrity guest together, Henssler remembered having already filmed with Schreiber for N-TV. Mälzer scolded his colleague: “What do you have to do with N-TV? I would have placed it between ‘Promiflash’ and ‘Bunte’.”

Schreiber received a compliment from Mälzer: “I think you look way too good for the ‘Tagesschau’!” Steffen Henssler even involved the news presenter in a conversation and wanted to know from him: “Do you like cooking at home? “ An unusual attempt at communication, which Mälzer commented flippantly: “Steffen spoke to the guest today! Now Steffen can go out into the big wide world alone. Now he also knows how to communicate.”

However, Schreiber enjoyed the short trip to the pop-up restaurant: “They were very talkative. They were actually quite entertaining.”

Henssler freaks out

Tie after round three: The two TV chefs took on the next challenge with 13.5 points each. A picture of a commercial kitchen was the first clue. Henssler reflected: “A tasting atmosphere here. There might be a bit of test cooking here.”

However, when it came to the menu he wanted, his facial features went off the rails: what was expected included a “deconstructed tortilla” and a “dessert with celeriac”. Henssler seethed: “Are you kidding me? That just triggers me a bit.” While the two tried to prepare the desired dishes in just 65 minutes, Henssler cursed to himself: “Deconstructed! What am I supposed to deconstruct? When I hear that! A classic that’s good – why should I go for it?”

The more Henssler scolded himself in a rage, the more relaxed Mälzer smiled to himself: “I heard you complaining the whole time and thought: I couldn’t have phrased it better.” Henssler was still on 180 and continued to grumble: “That’s it a creativity that is as pointless as shit under your shoe. Why should I do that? There is no reason!”

The dessert with vegetables caused the next temper tantrum. Henssler raged: “You can do that yourself. How lost do you have to be to be in the mood for a dessert made from celery?” But Mälzer remained surprisingly calm and even perceived the background noise as meditative: “It was like a Feng Shui singing bowl for me.”

The delivery location was particularly familiar to Mälzer: it was the Hamburg vocational school for chefs, where a competition was taking place. As we drove in, Mälzer even spotted a familiar face: “The one with the butt in his mouth is my trainee.”

However, the rating was a shock for the star chef: Tim Mälzer only received 3.5 points. Despite his celery desperation, Steffen Henssler scored four points. In an instant, the grouch’s mood was at its peak again: “Even if I don’t feel like it, there’s still enough for maltster!”

Duel ends in a draw

The last round of cooking took the two chefs to the Hamburg Landungsbrücken, where two ladies at a ship’s gas station were hoping for “Finkenwerder-style plaice”. There was a lot of bullying again – Mälzer described his opponent as a “dirty turd”, Henssler countered: “A disrespectful scumbag!”

When making deliveries at the ship’s gas station, the two felt so comfortable with the warm ladies that they would have preferred to stay there. Mälzer confessed: “Steffen and I didn’t want to leave at all.”

Tim Mälzer was able to regain his half-point deficit in this round. The two separated with a tie of 22 points each. However, after a final hug, Mälzer couldn’t miss a farewell saying: “You’re not as stupid as everyone else always says.”
