The Congress and the DMK will meet in Mamata Banerjee-led consultation in Delhi tomorrow on fielding a common candidate in the presidential election. The parties involved are to participate.

The election to elect the country’s 15th president is set to take place on the 18th of next month. The ballots will be counted on July 21 and the results will be announced. If the political parties unite and support the common candidate, the election will not take place and he will be elected without contest. If an election is held, the President of the Republic will be elected by members of Parliament and MLAs.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that the Congress party has decided to declare Nationalist Congress Party leader Sarabjit Singh as the common candidate in the presidential election on behalf of the opposition. This information, however, was denied by the sergeant. In this context, Trinamool Congress leader and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to hold a meeting of the opposition in Delhi tomorrow on the presidential candidate. It has been announced that the Congress party will also participate in the meeting.

The meeting will be attended by Congress leaders Mallikarjuna Karge, Jairam Ramesh and Randeep Surjewala. Also, the sergeant is said to be in attendance. தி.மு.க. Lok Sabha Committee Chairman DR Palu is scheduled to attend. Similarly, CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury has said that the Communist Party of India and the Marxist Communist Party will participate. Opposition parties are intensifying their campaign to field a common candidate, which could give the BJP a tough competition.
